# O-1B Visa for Artists in Paris

O-1B visa help for artists, musicians and filmmakers in Paris: local sources of evidence, how Lando prepares your petition online, and what to expect.

**Quick answer.** Lando prepares O-1B petitions for artists in Paris who want to work in the United States, entirely online. Lando can also communicate with you in French. Paris is known for cinema, opera and ballet, theater, classical music and contemporary art, so much of your evidence may come from the institutions listed below. The O-1B standard is the same everywhere: at least 3 of 6 USCIS criteria, or a significant national or international award or prize. Lando is not a law firm and has no office in Paris.

## What the O-1B looks for

The O-1B is for people with extraordinary ability in the arts, or a record of extraordinary achievement in motion pictures or television. A petition must show a significant national or international award or prize, or meet at least three of six criteria, such as lead roles, published material, a critical role at a distinguished organization, commercial or critical success, significant recognition, or a high salary. USCIS applies the same standard wherever you live.

## Where O-1B evidence can come from in Paris

These are real institutions in or around Paris that can generate O-1B evidence. Being in the city is not evidence. An event, venue or organization counts only when you are selected, nominated, awarded, credited or published through it, and you can document that.

- Académie des César: the academy behind France's annual film awards. Can support: an award or nomination.
- Festival de Cannes: the annual film festival, held in Cannes rather than Paris. Can support: selection and awards.
- Opéra national de Paris: the national opera and ballet company. Can support: a lead or critical role at a distinguished organization.
- Comédie-Française: the national theater company. Can support: a lead or critical role at a distinguished organization.
- Philharmonie de Paris: a major concert hall and music organization. Can support: a lead or critical role at a distinguished organization.
- Festival d'Automne à Paris: an annual autumn arts festival. Can support: selection and awards.
- Cahiers du Cinéma and Télérama: French film and culture publications. Can support: published material about you.
- SACEM: the French music rights society. Can support: membership in a professional association.
- ADAMI: the French society for performers' rights. Can support: membership in a professional association.

## How artists in Paris usually document a case

- Published reviews, interviews and press in trade and major outlets, with dates and circulation details.
- Credits or roles with organizations that have a distinguished reputation, shown through contracts, programs or announcements.
- Awards, nominations, festival selections or chart and streaming achievements, with proof of each.
- Contracts, royalty statements or invoices that show compensation compared with others in your field.
- Letters from recognized experts who can describe your work and its standing.

## Applying from France after USCIS approves your petition

This is a general summary from USCIS and U.S. embassy sources, not legal advice. Check the official pages for the current steps.

- A U.S. employer or U.S. agent files the O-1 petition with USCIS first. After USCIS approves it, people outside the United States apply for the visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
- The embassy in your country of residence or nationality schedules the visa interview. See the U.S. Embassy Paris visa information.
- Nonimmigrant visa applicants generally need an in-person interview. The embassy interview-waiver lists do not include O visas, and officers may ask for an interview in any case.
- Visa fees are set by the U.S. State Department and are non-refundable. Lando cannot predict interview wait times, so check the State Department wait-times page.
- USCIS says a petition can be filed up to one year before the start date, and ideally at least 45 days before it. A spouse and children under 21 may be eligible for O-3 status.
- Entry and visa rules can also depend on your nationality. Check the State Department's current guidance.

## Common questions

### Does Lando have an office in Paris?

No. Lando works online with artists in Paris and elsewhere. Lando is not a law firm and does not have a Paris office.

### Do I need to live in Paris to use Lando?

No. The O-1B standard does not depend on the city you live in, and Lando's service is fully online.

### Does performing at a Paris event count toward the O-1B?

Only as part of your evidence. An event counts when you are selected, nominated, awarded or credited and can document it, for example through reviews, programs or press. Attending or being nearby is not evidence.

### Can Lando act as my U.S. agent petitioner?

Yes, where the O-1 rules allow an agent to file. See the agent petitioner service page for how it works.

### Do I need to be in the United States to start?

No. Lando prepares everything online, and you can start from Paris. After USCIS approves the petition, you apply for the visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

### Does my work in France count toward a U.S. O-1B?

Yes. USCIS looks at recognition in your field, including national and international recognition, so documented evidence from Paris institutions can count. USCIS decides every case on its own evidence.
