Accession in the Protein Data Bank (PDB), NCBI's BioProject database, or NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) carries particular weight in the structural biology and genomics contexts because these repositories have formally recognized curatorial standards and serve as primary reference resources for entire research communities. A field-context section in the petition narrative that explains the norms of data sharing and reuse in the relevant scientific community can help adjudicators assess the significance of a data deposit record that does not resemble conventional publication evidence. In genomics, structural biology, or ecology, community-wide norms of data sharing are deeply embedded in funding agency requirements and journal policies, and the distinction between a routine mandated deposit and a highly cited reference dataset is well understood by practitioners but not necessarily by USCIS adjudicators.
